Hi-Media launches anniversary site www.fallberlinwall.com, in support of Reporters Without Borders

first_imgNews November 6, 2009 – Updated on January 25, 2016 Hi-Media launches anniversary site www.fallberlinwall.com, in support of Reporters Without Borders Organisation The online media group Hi-Media Publishing, one of the world’s leading Internet publishers, is teaming up with Reporters Without Borders to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November by launching a temporary website, www.fallberlinwall.com, that invites visitors to help to symbolically tear down the wall again, brick by brick. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the Eastern Bloc’s ensuing collapse meant the end of an Iron Curtain that also concerned the media. For decades, European peoples on the wrong side of the curtain had been forced to listen to foreign radio stations or get banned newspaper and books in order to find out what was going on in their own countries. After the fall of the wall, they finally won access to freely reported news and information and regained possession of their own history.Beginning on 9 November, Internet users in France and 47 other countries will be able to go to the www.fallberlinwall.com website, choose one or more bricks, and destroy them by sending an SMS, the price of which will go to Reporters Without Borders. Each smashed brick will display the name of the donor, who will received a digital certificate recording their participation in the destruction of the 2009 Berlin Wall that they will be able to post on their profile in Facebook or other social networks. All the proceeds from the wall’s destruction will go to Reporters Without Borders. They will help the press freedom organisation to continue its work, ensure its independence and undertake new projects. center_img RSF_en Help by sharing this informationlast_img read more

You’ve been framed! Record-breaker Hill is a Guinness prize guy

first_img Josh Hill met up with England Golf graduate Tommy Fleetwood today and was presented with a Guinness World Records certificate to mark his achievement as a history-maker.England boys’ squad player Hill made headlines across the world when he fired a final round 62 to win the Al Ain Open on the MENA Tour in October. The victory saw him become the youngest-ever winner of an official world golf ranking event at just 15 years, six months and 27 days old.In recognition of his fabulous win, Fleetwood took time out his busy schedule to hand over a framed certificate to the up-and-coming young Englishman.Hill said: “I’m a big admirer of Tommy so it was a real thrill for him to present me with this Guinness World Records certificate.“I feel honoured to have achieved what I have at 15, but I know it’s only a starting point.“I’m like any normal teenager, just half-decent at golf. I will continue to work hard to achieve my dreams.”Fleetwood – currently world number 10 – came through the England amateur ranks before going on to become one of the biggest stars of world golf, a Ryder Cup winner and Europe’s number one.Hill – who was born in Surrey, but is based in Dubai –  pegs it up tomorrow in another professional event, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA.Already this week he has enjoyed a practice round alongside world number one Brooks Koepka and rubbed shoulders with a range of stars from the European and PGA Tours.Hill’s meeting with Koepka naturally attracted a lot of attention especially when the 15-year-old outdrove the American on two occasions and beat him over eight holes!Koepka – a four-time Major winner – was impressed with both the teenager’s technique and attitude.Koepka said: “It’s always fun to get to play with these young kids, and you really see in 10 years – when I’m close to being on my way out – all these kids that will be up and winning a bunch.“It will be cool to see in the next five, 10 years how much he progresses.“He asked good questions. I thought that was important.“I think being so young, if I was in his shoes, I would have been afraid to ask. He wasn’t afraid to ask, which I think is very important and very mature for his age.“He’s a good player. Putts it really well. Short game is really good. Strikes it really well.”Hill is an important member of the England boys’ squad for 2020 and will be competing for a place in the team to play Home Internationals and the European Championships.Photograph credit: Getty Images Tags: England Boys’ Squad, Josh Hill 15 Jan 2020 You’ve been framed! Morgan Stanley: Fitbit needs better software to survive

first_imgFitbit needs to improve its software offerings if it wants to survive, according to a research note released on Monday by Morgan Stanley analysts Yuuji Anderson and Katy Huberty. The note suggests regular software upgrades, alongside support for third-party applications, would improve the longevity of Fitbit devices and keeps users coming back for the next product.See Also: Fitbit confident smartwatch will arrive on time, despite rumors of delaysFitbit is able to regularly update software, but most of the changes are minimal to the user interface and performance of the device. That won’t do for a company competing with Apple and Samsung for wearable sales — two companies that regularly update and improve core functionality.Fitbit is working on software for its next smartwatch release, most likely a successor to the Blaze. The company acquired Pebble for $23 million late last year, the biggest sign that it is serious about enhancing software and supporting more applications. In the past few months, Fitbit CEO James Park has confirmed the next smartwatch will have improved software, alongside more accurate GPS, heart-rate, and an SDK for app developers.“On the innovation side, there has been a large increase in R&D, but most of that has been on the software side. And when I say software, it includes our site, our mobile apps and, more importantly, the software that runs on the devices, as well,” said Park in November, during an earnings call.Fitbit also aims to enter the health market with its next smartwatch, improving sensor accuracy so it can track other blood and oxygen measurements. It would need to receive FDA approval to sell the device as a health monitor, something that Apple and Samsung are also reportedly looking to receive.
