The classes will teach the participants the art of building their own Carrickfin/Gola Island type currach indigenous to this area. In olden days, there were at least one currach builder in each townland, but presently there is only a handful in the area. As there is a relatively high cost for materials, a deposit is required on booking a place on the course. The course is limited to eight spaces. Although the course is suited for those who know the basics of operating a sewing machine, beginners will be accommodated on an introduction night which will be held on Tuesday February 10th. They have facilitated for the first time educational, cultural and sporting activities. They hope to build on this work in 2015 with new activities and events. Some activities envisaged are an Advanced Dress Making course in February and classes in Beginners Irish, Art and Basket Making. They hope to facilitate Currach Building classes in early summer as well as exhibitions, film nights and other cultural events. It is hoped that a tourist information centre will be opened in the summer. The Committee have been working towards getting a suitable venue for a Mens Shed for the Parish.
